In a funky, Warwick, Rhode Island hotel – 40 brothers on staff from all of the New England congregations of the International churches of Christ gathered from May 5-7 to fellowship, play, pray, preach, sing, compete and draw closer to God.
Since the women of the New England staff had their own retreat a couple of months back, the men were more than ready for their adventure, and it all got started on a Sunday night. First, the fellas just arrived. At different hours of the afternoon and evening, the guys headed out together for dinner, played pool, dealt cards and chilled at their get-a-way spot. It was great. I felt like I could let out a breath of relief and it felt safe. Even though all have different situations, I could relate so much to the feelings and the isolation at times. Even though the needs of our children are very different, the bond we share is special.
On Saturday, dozens of disciples from around the Boston church (and New Hampshire) joined together as parents of special-needs children for a kickoff devotional. This past weekend, the Boston Singles Ministry hosted their annual New England Singles Ministry Retreat in the beautiful state of Vermont. What a glorious time it was! God was clearly moving even before this incredible weekend began. With a month left until the retreat, registration was completely SOLD OUT! In response, we had a second wave of registration, but that again sold out in a matter of days! As a result of God moving singles’ hearts to want to grow and be connected with each other, over 325 fired up disciples descended upon Woodstock, VT ready to be refreshed. Disciples came from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, New York, Toronto, Montreal and even Nova Scotia to be a part of this retreat.
The campus ministries across New England continue to grow and thrive, as 300 students and staff gathered together last weekend for their largest campus retreat in at least ten years. Chip Mitchell, an evangelist in the Southern Region of the Boston Church of Christ, preached the main sermons under the theme of “Join the Revolution.”
