It was a blustery October day but that did not stop the hearty disciples in Boston from worshiping God and did not stop over 1400 volunteers from going out and showing their support for those in need. The day started out with a powerful worship service and lesson by Chip Mitchell. We then took a lunch break as various groups and individuals sold food to raise money for the HOPE worldwide fundraiser.
Pictures of the event were taken by Vanessa Embling (www.vanessaembling.com), a sister who is a professional photographer who donated her time to take these great shots for us. She may even have taken a photo of you if you were there so click (Here) to go there.
We then took to the paths in beautiful Franklin Park. Some ran, some walked and some of our younger volunteers rode in their strollers. But by the end of the day over $47,000 was raised. This was added to monies already collected with more still to come. The Boston Church is probably at its best when we serve and this day was no exception. Everyone who participated came with a great spirit and a heart to give and in spite of the cold and wind. This brought a lot of warmth to the day. We want to thank Ken Lowey (our church wide deacon for the poor) for spearheading the event. We also want to thank all those who have led the effort in the regions and who volunteered that day to serve the rest of us in our efforts to raise money for those in need. Let’s continue to serve during the entire Seasons of Service. Our next activity will help to feed families during the Thanksgiving season. Our goal is to have every small group participate in some way in feeding families throughout the Boston Metro area.
