The Boston campus ministry is in the throws of a revival. Over the last several years as various challenges have impacted the church, the fervor, faith and impact of the campus ministry has waned. Many battles have been fought to restore the hearts and to train the minds of the students. As 2007 came to a close the Boston campus ministry has seen multiplied workers, increased unity and the most conversions seen since 2002: 16 conversions have taken place. There have been souls saved at MIT, several at Harvard, BC, Emmanuel and several others. One of the reasons for the revival has been the investment of the church in the campus intern program.
Mark 3:13-16
13 Jesus went up on a mountainside and called to him those he
wanted, and they came to him. 14 He appointed twelve-designating them
apostles-that they might be with him and that he might send them out to
preach 15 and to have authority to drive out demons.
The training Jesus gave to his disciples involved calling a few, being
with them and spending time with them, and sending them out to preach.
The Boston Campus Intern program was offered to those who were regarded
as spiritual leaders among the fellowship and who were desirous to be
trained. Those so regarded were to spend more time being trained in
mission and ministry to the church by the staff of the campus and to
take on greater responsibility in the mission of the campus to the lost
souls of downtown Boston. The program's goal and aim was to equip
disciples more quickly for the works of service specifically in the
areas of mission and maturing of the church.
2007 has seen the first full year of the campus intern program
completed. Developing a thriving and growing campus ministry year
after year is a bit like having a winning college basketball team. You
may win the national championship one year, but if all your starters
graduate then the next year you will take a big step back. Campus
ministry is a ministry where every year the most mature and effective
leaders, the most trained students, graduate every year. The intern
program was created in mid 2006 as an attempt for the Millers and the
Petruzzis, the evangelists and women's ministry leaders of the campus,
to spend greater time training a specific group of student leaders and
sending them out for mission work. The first full year of the program
has resulted in a great increase in the faith, effectiveness and impact
the campus ministry over all.
